The IA Fencing Team, which consists of 97 fencers, wrapped up its 4th season with 7 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals and 12 Bronze Medals in individual competition this year. At the GHSFL Team Championship this past weekend, the Men’s team took home 3rd place, and the Women’s team became the State Champions for the 2nd year against Lambert High School! Great Job IA Fencing Team and a special thank you to Coach Bill Donges, Assistant Coach Tyler McCubbins and Intern Coach Becca Han!

During the 6 regular season tournaments all fencers compete individually, culminating in an Individual Championship for which each fencer must qualify. This year Senior and Team Captain, Anna Donges placed 2nd in the State, Freshman, Claire Wang placed 3rd and Senior and Team Captain, Catherine Rafferty placed 5th for the Women’s Team. Senior, Vishwa Munagapati placed 8th in the state for the Men’s team.

The final event is the GHSFL Team Championship, where the top 3-4 fencers from each team (men and women) complete against each other as a team. This year the IA Team (pic above) consisted of:
